I finally got a real knife! Cost me $20 and seems nice. Must resist urge to pull it out, though.

Congratulations! Good choice to start out with too. Just be sure to only use it responsibly and in appropriate situations and you should be fine. Another great knife at that price point is the Schrade Old Timer line. The blades will rust, true, but they also hold an edge and are very well made. They're very sheeple friendly as well, lots of people have one themselves or remember their Grandpa carrying something similar. Now you just need some practice sharpening that bad boy, if it's like other Gerbers I've gotten it probably really needs it. Let us know how it goes, have fun and stay safe.

Congrats!! That's a great knife with which to begin a legitmate collection. I hope you enjoy it. Is it PE or CE?

The LST is a nice size for EDC. It's a great knife to start out with.

Great historical significance in that knife, it was the first production made FRN/Plastic Handled knife, it started the whole plastic knife craze.

What do you mean PE or CE? Much sharper than my Wenger Squire SAK!
Working on my sharpening skills (or lack of)

Congratulations Garageboy!

The LST is a fine first “real knife” - use it safely and responsibly and it will serve you well.

Sorry about that GB. I should have been more specific. Good for you on getting a PE. That's the most versatile blade design, it will serve you well.

Thanks, I looked @ the CE, but I thought about the thread that said CEs do not combine the best of both worlds, so I grabbed the PE.

You catch on quick! It took me a couple of tries before I realized how worthless combo edges are.

The LST is a great little knife! I've had the same one since 1984, still going strong (sharpened away about 1/16 of an inch of the blade edge, but it still works).

A Gerber LST was my first name brand knife! It is a great little knife. Good choice on the Plain edge. I don't have much use for combo edges either. Good Luck!!!;)

The LST is a great knife at a great price. You have a real winner! Use it responsibly.

Good knife in the LST. My first Zytel-handled knife was the LST, which I bought at a K-Mart (oddly enough) several years ago. The knife is extremely comfortable for pocket carry and is a great introductory knife.
congrats.
