Gerber made where?

I think Gerber should be a little more open with the location of the construction of their knives. It seems that more and more are made over seas. But I have to say the ones that I have from over seas are fairly well made. The mettle can be a little thin though.

I'm surprised there hasn't been the standard "Gerber sucks" bladeforums answer yet. I do agree that Gerber should make more of their products in the US, considering they are based in Oregon. The Big Rock is made overseas but it's good for the price. I do wish they would use better steel than their "high carbon stainless" but it still works for me.

It's not junk just because of the kind of steel or where it's made, it's junk because that's what the American company that imported the product paid for. Any American company, and any imported product.

I don't buy anything not marked with steel type and country of origin. I can live with a cheaper knife made overseas if the company is willing to own it and it is a quality product.

If its a good design, well made, and a good price does it really matter?

I am willing to bet that if given 10 identical looking blades all made out of different kinds of steel that 99% of you would not be able to guess which is which based on a full day of use...
