Gerber Mark II question

Got talking with my neighbor, and turns out he is a knife nut, so he goes into his house and pulls out a Mark II from the 1970's-1980's. I have never seen one of these close, and they were nice looking. I started to like it even more, and now it looks like I "need" one. I wanted to know if the new Gerber Mark II's are still high quality, and if they are USA made. I've seen them around for about one hundred bucks, new, so it beats buying a Vietnam issued one for five hundred.

Short of being a cool collectors piece, they really don't have much use. Unless you plan on stabbing people. I used to own one. Cool looking, but not very practical. Gave it to a buddy of mine. And double sided daggers are illegal in a lot of places. I think.

Well, I didn't plan on using it in bushcraft, but if you insist.... ;)
I was going to display it, as a collectors item.

Gerber has made so many of these. If you want a collector's piece, your best bet is to find a 1980's model or older. They are all serial numbered, so you can place a date on them. Also they made a collectors edition with grey handles and display case.

I've seen some 80's models pop up on the exchange in the $150-$175 range.

I'll check around. Usually, my local Military shows have them from $300.00 up. Only reason I was asking about the new models. Thanks for the tip.

Since nobody has answered the question yet, the new ones are great quality and made in the USA.

There are a series of videos made by coldsteel on youtube where they test a gerber mark 2, a master tanto and a traditional tanto. From what I remember the gerber mark 2 did pretty decent.
