Gerber Mark II

Bought a Gerber Mark II with a gray handle and brown leather sheath today(no sharpening stone).Serial# is 045664.That and a Blackjack Wasp were both aquired at a flea market.

I was wondering how I could get a date of manufacture on the Gerber.

Yeah.I really scored on it.This is my second MarkII in as many weeks.

I can't find much, if any info on the Blackjack Wasp. The knife was, gasp, sharpened by a file or on a grinder.It isn't terribly bad, but the knife itself is very "different" and I'd like to restore it.

Can emory cloth be used to polish out the marks?

As you can see in the pic the grind marks are pretty obvious.Is there a way i can polish these out?
 
I was talking to a guy at a local knife store and he told me lots of people ask for the MK II. Boker and Cold Steel seem to be doing ok with their daggers, so I know there is a market.

I've always liked the "dagger" type knife. I also don't understand why Gerber stopped making them.Haven't seent he Cold Steel versions.

The next "dagger" style on my list is a SOG Desert Dagger.

I am very content with the two MarkII's I currently have and a MarkI.
 
Cold Steel has the Peacekeeper I and II http://www.coldsteel.com/fixed-blades-peace-keepers.html as well as the Taipan http://www.coldsteel.com/fixed-blades-tai-pan.html . I bought daggers as a kid, but for the most part I've been into tantos for that last decade. I just got into daggers earlier this month and bought an Applegate-Fairbairn, an AF Boot Knife, an AF Mini Smachet, and a Gerber Guardian II, which is why it will be a little while before I buy anything else. My next dagger will probably be the Fairbairn-Sikes or one of the CS Peacekeepers.
