I recently inherited a wooden box containing two Gerber knives. These knives were presented to my relative when he retired from the Marines after 30 years of service.

Can anyone tell me the value of these knives. My uncle who is experienced in collecting firearms seems to feel that they were fairly valuable. My concern is if they have enough value to be insured, I have no intention of selling them as the have sentimental value beyond their monetary value.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Sincerely,

Peter

You might try posting this in the Bernard Levine forum, too. If you have digital pictures of the knives, that might help as well. I envy you; it sounds like a nice set, with much sentimental value built in on top of it.

Sir Razoredj is correct, posting it there will help get the most accurate information, however it sounds like you have one of the commemorative Mark I/II sets that Gerber has made in their history. They make two versions currently, and both retail for several hundred dollars. The simple age of your set, and the Mark I & Mark II being time honored pieces of cutlery I would imagine you have something very special.

Thudpilot,

Welcome to the forums.

A picture would be a big help. There have been a number of variations made of this very popular knife. Those made during the Vietnam War, especially the earlier versions, are highly sought by collectors.
