Hi. I got these in 1971, maybe '72. They were in a warm moist climate for a few years, then "lost" for many years and stored in the sheaths for part of that. Just found them recently after a move. Looks like the tip of the MK II was broken off at some point but I don't remember when or how. The MK I wasn't used or sharpened but the MK II was carried for a bit till I replaced it with a Randall.

I did a little research on them and the logos, sheaths, handles and serial numbers are all in the 71-72 time frame.

Anyone have any suggestions for refinishing the surface rust, and maybe reshaping the point on the MK II? Is it even worth it to do this or should I just leave them with their "character" intact?

Thanks!

I can't tell how deep those rust areas are? the surface stuff ive used a pencil eraser to remove without messing up the finish. the deeper or pitted stuff that won't work on.

Start by cleaning with Flitz, Simichrome or similar polishing agent. My guess is that alone will clean the blades up enough to see if there are bigger issues.
Those were 440A or 420HC (can't remember now) so I doubt you have "pitting". You might, but I suspect it unlikely.
Further cleaning can be done with a polishing wheel with compound, or fine grit sanding if absolutely necessary.
The broken tip on the Mk II is really minor as far as "broken tips" go and can be fixed with stones.
Neither models are rare collectibles so no need to leave them as they are.

Thanks for the suggestions. Both blades cleaned right up with some Flitz and a felt polishing wheel. Turned out the stains were just tarnish from the sheaths. No rust pitting or surface irregularities.
