Well it looks like Gerber is gonna bring back the MK II supposed to release in June or July of 08...same specs as before...nylon sheath dunno MSRP value..whew ...about time huh???? just wished they would make it with a slightly larger handle.......

Wow, that took a very long time. I wonder if it will be made in the States or not?

Why? The Mark II is a classic!

This is new production, by the same company who designed and produced it a half a century ago. The Mark II has some flaws, but like the Fairbairn-Sykes, they don't keep it from becoming one of the most sought after collectible knives.

:)

Wish they would have made it in the wasp style blade with the natural leather sheath though.

I appreciate classics like the next guy ; however the handle felt like it was on a diet. quick in the hand and wore just right....little more handle and would have been quicker.

I have the '08 Gerber catalog. The Mark II looks like a flop. 420HC steel blade. MSRP $149.:barf:

420 HC steel not bad...does what its supposed to do. and at $149.00 (approx) guess not gonna cry real hard if somthing goes wrong..hope they decide to make the other versions of it.

I had heard from one of my knife dealers that the MK II will be Military/police issue only !!!!

any truth to this?!?!? - Eric

I doubt it. If I'm not mistaken, Gerber is bringing back the Mark 2 due to popular demand. Plus someone has already spotted it in the Gerber 08 catalog. It'll be nice if someone with the catalog could take pictures of it

Gerber had long moved most of it's manufacturing to China. I suspect this is being manufactured there under Gerber supervision.

The several letters back and forth with Gerber that I was involved in specifically asked for the non-serrated wasp style classic with the leather sheath with sharpener. They gave me every indication that was the one that everyone wanted and then they produce the one that was least popular. Why ask peoples opinion if they did what they wanted anyway? Popular demand should have produced the classic wasp style like most everyone wanted.

Also in 2009 they will release a collector's edition that will be a limited run with each knife being numbered.

What? As a Chinese in PRC(People's Republic of China), I know some of gerber knives are made in Taiwan, but definitely not in PRC:D

I miss the Mk I but the Applegate-Fairbain I picked up from Blackjack Knives was such an improvement IMO that except for collectability I haven't sought out another Mk II. It is still a great combat sticker but it certainly lacks something in more survival oriented tasks.

That being the case, I would advocate taking a look at Ek's M4 and support a true legend...
