I got my Gerber 2008 catalog. The MKII will be black coated and 420HC and doesnt appear to be the old wasp waisted blade shape, it's also got the serrations on it. I wish I had a scanner so I could post a pic. It says July 2008 release date.

Ok well I'm alittle upset at Gerber. Thanks for the info.
I expected to see the exact same blade shape and 12c27 steel like the LMF2.
Although I just did a search on the LMF and it looks like they changed its blade steel to 420hc. :(

I didn't really expect them to use use a premium steel since edge holding is not important on a self defense piece. What was the recommended retail price? Hope it isn't overinflated

I didnt get a price list with the catalog but a website has msrp as 146.00, which means even if it's half of that it's still gonna expensive for what it is.

Do you mind telling me what website had the msrp also does the catalog or website say what kind of sheath it comes with , thanks for the info.

I can't find it at the Gerber website...

I've always been a fan of the Gerber Mark I, Mark II, and Guardian designs. But 420HC? Coated blade? $146?!? Gerber's blowing it.

I not surprised at Gerber. It seems every time they get a nice design they have to mess it up somehow. Either with serrations or bad blade steel, or both.

If I am correct though didn't they make it with 154cm steel a few years ago? I wonder why they couldn't use that steel again?

I know there is a couple of mark 2's on the Cutting Edge through AG Russell's. One of them is the standard bright blade and the other one has a tool steel blade if anyone was interested. I myself am pretty much done with Gerbers. The only ones I really liked were the BMF and that bowie they produced.

Ugh, Gerber, I remember their junky daggers from 80's catalogs and gun mag ads etc. I thought they had given up on knives to focus on the multitool market.

Bad steel, over priced, cheap coating, living off the legend of what they used to be back before they had no real production comp. I think that pretty much describes Gerber. And their multi tools pinch! Get a SOG!

Or get an EK if you want a real military dagger.

Here's a listing I found online. Can't vouch for it's accuracy, but it appears that they were always either 440C and L6 tool steel. Either would be great IMO. Even 440B would be OK, if it were heat-treated well and priced accordingly.

Buck has been using 420hc for a long time but most of the Buck line isn't going for over 100.00 except for the special fixed blade models. Buck also has a really good heat treat and great quality control. Two things Gerber has lacked consistently.

420HC is not a bad steel at all. Buck uses it in their knives and I'm not hearing any complaints about it.

Buck knives don't cost $143... If the Gerber Mark II sells for $50 and is made in the USA, I won't complain much about it either.

I was kinda expecting this from Gerber they just cant seem to make good decisions about fixed blades anymore. The only surprise was the 420hc I thought they would use the usual 440a that most of thier knives use. I'm still PO'D about them canceling the original yari and replaceing it with some mall ninja tacticool knife with a metal handle. I wonder where the MKII is going to be made cause it doesnt say. You can request a catalog by emailing sales@gerbergear.com . I'm hopeing the net price of this will be around the same 70.00 they were before they got discontinued.
