Gerber MKII Wanted;What should I look For?

I have wanted to add a gerber Mk II to my collection and have seen plenty on ebay. The prices range from a $100 to $1500 dollars. I would like a Veitnam area but not sure I can afford it. Would the next best thing to do is look for the oldest one in the best condition I could afford? And where can I get info in the serial numbers so I can date the knife for myself? Please pass this around and Thanks in advance to everyone for helping me out!

Go to E Bay and be prepared to pay 150 to 200 for a good one.
