I have an opportunity to buy a gray handled MKII, the serial number starts CSxxx79. It does not have a sheath. I don't know much about them except what I have read. Is it worth adding to my collection of fixed blades? It's so surprising lite.

200, but they will negotiate. It's a classic and I'm slowly ($) starting to collect military fixed blades. Nothing rare mind you just average military fixed blades.

Lots of info on that knife here: http://militarycarryknives.com/Knives.htm

Read up on that & then go to Ebay & search "Gerber MKII", "Gerber Mark II", Gerber MK 2", & "Gerber Mark 2" to see the relative prices. Not sure what sort of condition the one you're looking at is in or when it was made. I've been stalking the same knife too here lately.

MkII? If its real special, then I cant help you... Base model, id only pay perhaps $100-150

It doesn't have the blade cant so I dont think it's to old or special.

No cant, no sheath, no $200.00....

Just my .02¢

I agree I'm not desperate to get this knife just think it's neat. Wanted opinions about it.

Dont buy it. Not for that price. Id only go as high as 75 for a knife like that.

Interesting link JeffPhansen, I've never liked Gerber but interesting details on the many iterations of this knife. I had never seen the "cant" before, I assume it was for better ergonomics in stabbing? I've seen lots of daggers this was new to me.

You'd have to see one with the cant to understand what it is, supposed to have made it easier to carry and for use on enemy personnel. But they dropped the cant later. I think I'll wait till an L6 bladded on comes along or they go way low on the price for this one.

"CS" would stand for the fact it is a Cutlery Shoppe reproduction of the early knives but I guess even those are getting fairly old now. Cutlery Shoppe used to work with Gerber on a number of exclusive models.

The cant was strictly intended for making the knife hug closer to the body, whether worn on the belt or upside down on the LBE harness.... it was an original design feature that was later dropped because it killed sales.

The blade "cant" of the earlier knives was eliminated due to many owners who assumed they were defective and returned them to the Gerber factory.

Nobody wanted to buy a "bent" knife. ;)

If you look hard enough and have patience, THIS is what $200.00 could get you. (Yes, it's mine, L6/Canted/No serrations - LNIB)

(Pardon the traditionals, another passion I'm developing.... ;))

Would I be a terrible person if I bought one of those & had the etching removed? I'd never sell it but it's still a limited-number piece. I go back & forth on this & would like informed outside opinions before I do something dumb.

Yes, yes you would be. You'd also be a terrible person if you found a canted one and bent it until it was straight.

Dude..someone bent your knife. I bet I can fix that for you.

Seriously, i never saw one like that. What an odd concept. You learn something new every day on this forum.
