I have a Gerber MkII with scabbard and sharpening stone, that I bought in the 60's and carried in Vietnam. It is in good condition; blade is somewhat stained, but not pitted or chipped. The serial number is 001645. Can anyone tell me when it was manufactured and what it might be worth today?

That one should be a very early model from 1967. If that is accurate it should have the blade tilted slightly sideways. By that I mean if you lay it down on its side on a table the tip should be higher (or lower) than where the blade meets the handle. It is quite valuable. I couldn't set a price on it. I suggest that you get an ebay.com user ID so that you can search closed auctions to see what similar knives have sold for in the past. It might be more than $1,000. If you document where the knife went in Vietnam and anything noteworthy that it was used for it might increase the value. Don't try and sharpen or polish it at this point. That might reduce collector value.

Here is a link to a now defunct website which lists years of production for various versions of the Mk II.

Thanks, Jeff. I thought it was 1967, but wasn't sure. I was a helicopter pilot in the III Corps area of Vietnam and carried it in case I was shot down. Fortunately, I never had to use it.
