First of all, welcome to Blade Forums:)

The best way that I know of to post pics is to upload them to a free site like photobucket.com. Setting up an account is easy there. Once you upload your pics, just copy the IMG line under the pic. Then on the BFC thread you are posting in, hit the little button the tool bar that looks like a mountain with a sun over it. Right click in the box to past your IMG location.

That should be it:) Your pic should show up in your post.

too many img tags ;)

I had Mark II made in 90's, I really liked that knife. And older ones are much nicer

It's made in 1977, blade is handground L6 steel. Do you have photos?

It was made in 1977 but they were made from 440c at that time not L6 tool steel. It should have a grey armorhide handle and be in a black leather sheath that comes to a point. It will have course serrations part of the way down each side of it's non-canted blade. It should look sort of like the 1976 model in this picture, but with a black sheath instead of the OD green and have larger serrations. The 97223 on the sheath is the zip code of Gerber's home plant, many people think it is some sort of serial number but the sheath's were never serial numbered.

I have collected a lot of them but I rarely buy any past 1976 so am not familiar with what you might get for it exactly. I would say if it is in perfect condition in the original box you should easily get over $400, but how much more would depend on the bidders of the day. If it is the one in the photo in the previous post don't expect much more than $200 and that if you are lucky.

It's something new for me, AFAIK Mark II daggers were made from L6 steel in 1966 - 1979 period. I can have wrong information.
Tray, does the blade have signs of rust?

The production charts I have are directly from the former Production Manager at Gerber. I also have product literature that came with knives as early as 1973 that state they are made from 440C. I believe that all or most of the blades made after they changed to the wider design are 440C. Rust is not a good indicator either.

Interesting, thanks for information :)

I just went back to look at a couple of things and I would have to say that I have conflicting info on that subject. I have the chart which stops use of L6 in 1973. I have a card that was in a sealed boxed knife from 1976 that says that the L6 was used throughout the Vietnam conflict but now the knives are 440C. I do not have it anymore but I bought my first Mark II in 1974 (serial number 0334??) and I am pretty certain that it had literature with it stating that it was 440C. The exact time it was changed is not certain to me and I would not doubt that there was some overlap where both materials were used so I would almost bet that there is not a definate serial number where one material stops and the other starts.
