I just bought a Gerber Model C300B on ebay -- bought it because I liked the stag handle. The knife probably dates from the '70's. Here's a factory description of the knife:

"Custom designed to meet the rugged demands of today's outdoorsman, these superb cutting tools blend ultramodern, functional design, and skilled Gerber craftsmanship and manufacturing techniques. Extra-strong blades are precision ground to a razor sharp, double-wedge shape and boast a super-hardness of Rockwell C60-62. Special industrial hard-chrome plating keeps these high speed tool steel blades bright and stainless through the demanding use for which this series designed."

I don't remember this knife -- does anyone else have any feedback on this model Gerber?

Levine's Guide 5th ed. (page 368):
In 1971 Al Mar joined Gerber as a package designer. It turned out that Mar also had some very definite ideas about knife design. Many of his designs were a bit too radical for Gerber in the 1970s, which was the main reason Mar left to found his own knife company in 1979. But before then Gerber did put several of Mar's knife designs into production.
One of Mar's first knife efforts for Gerber, the Custom Series of six hunting knives (Model numbers 300A, 300B, 325, 375, 425, 475 with green, smooth, nylon handles) introduced in 1975, proved to be a failure. The designs were sound, combining the classic pre-1951 Shorty with the latest Loveless look, but the green nylon handles were a mistake and discontinued in 1976. Substituting ebony (Model numbers C300A, C300B, C325, C375, C425, C475) in 1976-78, then stag (same model numbers as the ebony) 1979-82/83, did not help much.
