Don't know much about them. I just picked one up yesterday and it appears that it has all the same tools as a Leatherman PST. Anyone ever carry an MPT regularly? What's the story behind these?

Supposedly designed for a military contract. The story seems believable to me.

I carried one for a few months back in '97. I liked the low weight, thin profile, and simple construction. The design had the faults common to my other Gerber (first generation OTF plier whatever model it was) as far as using the fold out tools.

I eventually switched to a first gen WAVE.

Back, then, Gerber multi-tools were built reasonably well for the price, too, and there are times I wish I had kept the MPT considering what I payed for it (on sale at WallyWorld).

Believe the MPT was for a USMC tender, or at least that was what I was told (??!).
All said, the MPT was built to be marginally stronger than the original Leatherman PST.
Hence why it won the contract.

A Gerber MPT was my first multi-tool. I think I was still in high school when I picked it up. I used that thing for everything. Then one day I tempted fate when I mentioned how long I'd had it to someone else. I was sitting on the side of a boat at the time, and as I tried to put the MPT back in the sheath, it slipped out of my hand and into the water. Talk about foot in mouth..
