Just rec. this one today. One of the original issue knives it appears. Has the old school sheath where you can either fold the knife up or leave it unfolded as in like a fixed blade and slip into the sheath behind the pouch. First off it is now scary sharp :D , secondly it is friggin huge, and I mean I have not seen another folder that could touch it. Third and last it is about as rugged as a fixed blade. I am not positive as to how Gerber did it in the construction but the thing is so over built it is well for lack of a better word a monster build. The sheath is almost as cool as the knife. You can wear it many different ways on different belts etc. etc. The pouch if you are carrying the knife open in the sheath, can store a whole bunch of survival stuff. Now the blade, I am thinking is 440c but it is a full 3/16" thick almost out to the point. No distal taper or anything like that to potentially weaken the blade. It is about 4.25" long to boot. Flat ground and now extremely sharp with a good hard edge.

Nope the darn thing is hell bent for strong and stoudt. The handle is made up of a plastic but again like the blade is very strong and really comfortable. Especially for someone with big fat mitts like myself. I like it. Everyone says or has an opinion as to what folder is the strongest etc etc. And for the most part when dealing with a folder and comparing it to a folder that particular folder probably is. You can insert any top name folder here. This knife just seems to be beyond that. The toggle lock is pretty stiff even after all these years to disengage it, which is a good thing. Looking up at the inside of the lock, the lock itself is a very large round steel locking bar. Where the blade pivots around it is mirror polished like glass. Anyways I am going to play with it some more. Maybe do some whittling or something just to check out the blade dyanmics. keepem sharp

I've got a Parabellum that I've had for years. I used to carry it when I was in the National Guard. It is a neat knife. I really like the old Gerbers. Have fun. :)

No digi camera but I will take some silver halide pics and email you. I don't have the priveledges to post I don't belive. keepem sharp
PS look on the trade forums here, there may be some pics of it still there.

I had one of those for years but I traded it last summer for a Protech model. I have CUDA MAXX 5.5" and a CUDA MADD MAXX 7", so I don't need any other big foders. But I will say that the Gerber Parabellum, along with the Al Mar largest SERE folder were the two strongest knives that I had ever seen or used for many a year. Up until the advent of the REKAT Sifu and then the CUDA MAXX 5.5, I seem to remember Jim March recommending the Parabellum along with the CS Grand Vaquero for megafolders and I have never been overly enamored of CS products.

I never did figure out how the Bolt Action Lock on that Parabellum worked, but work it certainly did.

where can i get 1 online and how much will it cost???
also r there any other folders that can b carried lik that cuz i think that the parabellum is discontuned and i did a search online and couldnt find any places selling them
thanx

That one in the pics looks just like the one I have. I think the thing is a riot for sure. I have had many big folders including the CUDA Maxx bowie. Does not even come close to this knife. The Gerber has much betterergonomics for grip. Not as concealable but who cares! You know it is almost identical in size for length anyways of my favorite hunter. The CS master hunter. The grip on the Para is much bigger and better I think. Man does it sharpen up to a razors edge. Took a good long while too. I think the sheath is way cool too. I never saw one until I rec. this one here on the forums. Well keepem sharp.

The Parabellum hasn't been made for the LONGEST time. It's a PETE Gerber product, not a Fiskars one. Try a TOPS magum, if you want a nice mega folder

i would lik 2 find a folder that has a sheath so it can b carried open lik the parabellum

or

a place online 2 buy the parabellum

Probably 440A, instead of 440C. Still, a great knife. I had one once, but traded it to a friend of mine. He was an Army Officer, and loved it. Probably still carrying it, for all I know.

My understanding from the little research I have done is the early Para's were 440c. This is indicated by the type of sheath. The one that allows you to carry the blade open or closed. The newer style is supposed to be 440A and has just a belt pouch sheath. Hey maybe I am wrong. I do know it took a good long while to sharpen and the steel definetly seems pretty hard and not like any 440a steel I have encountered. Keep me posted if anyone finds out for sure. keepem sharp

btt to say that I just got a beautiful example of a Gerber Parabellum in the post today from Ebay. I used to have one in the Army years ago, but it was stolen by a thieving swine with a discerning eye. It used to amaze people with it's sharpness and strength. This one is in absolutely mint condtion, it's never been used, just sat in the original box for years. I've given it a strop on some leather and it's shaving hairs off at a touch! Awesome knife, even better than I remember it. :)

I'm surprised that ever since Gerber pulled the plug on the Parabellum, no other company bought up the rights to it??

Why are you surprised? Most companies don't discontinue something that is selling well. Why buy the rights to something that had already failed to sell?

By the way, you do realize this was a five year old thread that was resurrected and died agin two years ago, don't you?

I've had a Parabellum for 20 years or so but it has a pitting problem on one side of the blade. It's been a safe queen for two decades but for some reason there are little pits all over the side that says "PORTLAND.OR.
97223 U.S.A.
WTF?
None of the other knives in my safe have this problem.

I have one, has the regular pouch sheath. Always wanted the dual sheath. Spyderco is supposed to be making a knife with the same style lock soon.
