Hi guys
I wanted to try some video stuff last weekend in the woods and i ended up shooting my test of the Gerber parang (yeah the one versus wild) and some other hiking gear.
The parang first interested me for its design , i liked the BLADE shape a lot and planed on replacing the handle with one of mines.
The parang is actually a pretty good chopper , i was surprised how deep it could go for a pretty lightweight and short machete.
The handle is ok with some modifications , like removing the finger bump wich is totally useless and stopped me from placing my hand as i wanted >_< the top guard is also useless in my opinion.. gonna remove it !
the hollow grind is also meeeeeeeh but not a huge issue for the cutting capabilities ,
and easy to sharpen.
Edge retention ... meeeeeh the hard dead wood was really hard i'm gonna say.
I wont do a personal handle finally , because since i got the parang i fell in love with BIG knives and got a cold steel gurkha kukri AND a ka-bar kukri
I plan on making a VS video of these two next time , as they both look like great choppers
So that's it for the parang, good tool for the price i would say , but being used to knives like ESEE , fallkniven (F1 my love..) , Tops etc , there is something i can't feel about this blade...maybe the toyish handle simply cuts the cool for me ... i'll keep it for the garden, it's still a user
I have to say that the kukri's in comparison have become one of my favorite blades as soon as i've put my hands on one !
Hope you like the video !
