Hi all. I've just recently been bit by the knife bug and been looking at purchasing a few cool ones that I have discovered. But I remembered last night that I had this old Gerber Paul 2PW stuffed in a keepsake box so I dug it out and did some light maintenance on it. It does have the 1 etched on the inside. It's too nice to daily carry so I was thinking about taking it to the pawn shop to see about trading it for a gun. But I wanted to consult with people that have more knowledge about it than I do. Do I have a treasure here or is it just a meh old knife? I got it in 1989 as a gift from a friend and it's been stored away since then. The little research that I have done points to it being special. Thoughts? Pics are here, I think....(posting pics here is a bit difficult)

You think a pawn shop will trade you for a gun? LoL. Get a gold membership and trade it here.
I have no idea about the pawn shop deal, it was just a thought. Will the value of it justify getting a paid membership here? I a fresh as can be to the knife game, so I'm not totally obsessed....yet

Peterson Precision Engineering CA made about 23,000 of them for Gerber in various versions. They pop up for sale here and there.
You need a Gold or higher membership to discuss prices/values. But from what I've seen I wouldn't exactly use the term "treasure".

Pawn shops will offer you chump change for it. You will be much better offer getting the Gold membership I mentioned and trading it here :-)

Could be treasure to somebody. I'm not talking about being worth thousands of dollars, I'm not that ignorant. But it could be one that a collector would want to add to their collection. It's in great shape for being 40ish years old.

It's too nice for an EDC and it and is just a waste being wrapped up and stored away in my closet. I would rather somebody that really appreciates it give it a new home. Although I do love it, I have no use for it besides an occasional glance and a few flicks and maintenance.

The original 2P was made between 1977 and 1986, total production 77,000 between the 2P, 2PW and 2PM. A quick google search will tell you all you need to know about current pricing....
