Just got a clip point Gerber Gator Premium in S30v made in USA and the initial impression is poor.

The triangular hole on the blade sits too deep in the handle and does not help at all in facilitating one hand opening. The blade have slight up and down blade play.

The biggest problem is the edge grind, it's not only off on both sides it's also weavy like the person was drunk when grinding the blade. The knife is not sharp out of the box. I'm very disappointed in this new premium s30v US made Gerber.

Dang. They need to re-train or hire some new sharpeners over there, but my recent Gerbers (a couple of propels and orders) were at least sharp... Lock-play too? Neither of my Orders has ANY play... Is it possible you got a 'lemon'? Try exchanging it?

And lack of one-hand opening ... well, i guess that makes it similar to the other gator folders. :p

Thank you for posting your experience. Please let us know if you exchange it?

So disappointing...good old Gerber Gators were excellent

Still among my favorites, steel gets wicked sharp so darn easily, and holds good enough (actually like it better than S30V)

Seller ended up refunding me my purchase stating "no stock". I'm wondering if that's because all the ones they had in stock had problems? I was suppose to get a replacement but somehow they decided to not send me one. Oh well, I guess I won't be buying this model again in the future.

Thank you for the follow-up. I will avoid this model.

Only slightly related, you might be interested to try the Walmart-special plain-edge version of the Gerber Order recently released - I picked one up in-store, had to hassle the guy behind the counter to get one out for me, as he insisted that they only had the knives present in the display box and this version wasn't there, but once he finally obeyed my request and grabbed a box from behind the counter, I was vindicated. Good knife for the $$.
