Hi all,

I just ordered a Gerber Prodigy from amazon.com. I noticed on the official Gerber website that the model no. for the prodigy was "22-01121" and the prodigy I ordered on amazon had a model no. of "22-41121". Whats the difference between the different model numbers for the prodigy? Is one a newer model, and if so would it matter?

Thank you.

A quick google search tells me that the 22-01121 has 12C27 Sandvic steel blade, whereas the 22-41121 has 420HC steel. Gerber's website lists the knife as 420HC, so I would guess that this is the newer/current production. The 2 different steels are fairly comparable.

I have a 12C27 blade and it's chip-o-matic. It can't manage the most menial daily slicing tasks without the edge turning into a hobby saw... but it sure is comfy to fondle. If you want a drawer knife that will never be used, it's a dandy-as soon as you actually need to cut something I think you'll be sorely disappointed.
