Gerber Prodigy without serrations

Wouldn't the following be great, too bad Gerber doesn't seem to be listening to their customers:

Their argument will probably be that the Prodigy is marketed toward military use and that the military likes the serrations. Thats legitimate but I would wager that the majority of knife buyers are not military folks but the general public. Those serving in the military typically prefer a multitool or inexpensive folder over a heavy fixed blade anyway. Most major manufacturers offer both serrated and unserrated on fixed blades so why not the Prodigy or LMF II?

I can see the appeal of a non serrated version as I have a gerber lmf ii and Keep it in the back of my suv and serrations would come in handy if I had to do anything regarding the suv such as cutting a busted water hose, etc....but aside from that if Gerber were to make a willderness version of the prodigy with a straight edge and possible larger exposed tang I am sure it would sell very well. I like their 420 and would purchase one if it was offered.

I think other than users who ride on these forums...most people like serrations....because they cant sharpen their knives and those serrations saw and tear even when dull due to the teeth.

I would like more plain edge knives from gerber made in the usa...or made anywhere. Their autos especially.

I'm sort of confused by the OP. Is that an actual catalog page or just wishful photoshopping? I hope it's real, it's about time knife companies decided that if they can offer just about every folding knife they make in serrated and non serrated versions they could do the same with fixed blades.
If it is real thanks for the good news OP!:)

That was just some nice photo shopping...Gerber has not made any indications regarding a plain edge version of the prodigy as the option would be nice...If they can do it for the bear grylls model I can't see why they can't for the prodigy. The arguement was clearly made regarding consumer interest in a straight edge blade seeing as how the produced a straight edge BG model....ah well

you are more or less correct about your conclusion about serrations. if a blade is available as a combo edge i almost always opt for that version. but it's not that we can't sharpen knives; it's just not a hobby or obsession to do so. i have a sharpmaker and an edge pro, so i have the proper tools but i don't like to sharpen unless i absolutely have to.

I like both edge types but actually prefer a straight edge for sharpening simply due to the fact that the majority of my early knives were straight edge so that is what I became used to. I do see the utility aspect of the serrations but i guess it is all a matter of what your used to and the intended purpose.

I wish it was real but sadly no. I would buy one in a heartbeat but Gerber is not responsive to their customers unfortunately. When you go to the website and read the reviews almost every reviewer asks for a plain edge version, yet silence. SOG, Kabar, Spyderco, Benchmade, CRKT, Leatherman, Buck etc. All these companies provide serrated and non-serrated versions of the same blade and sell a ton of them. :(
