What do you guys think about the gerber Profile fixed blade? WOuld it make a good hunting knife? Easy to sharpen? What steel is it?

Sheath is crap, handle is uncomfortable and the black coating is ugly.

Having said that, it works fine, gets and stays sharp. Have used it to stick pigs and butcher pig and goats. It's buried in my garage somewhere now.

for a cheap cheap knife, I love the Gerber Profile. It's one of the first fixed blade knives I ever owned, paid 15 dollars for it, beat the piss out of it, and always managed to get it shaving sharp again. Crap Gerber steel, finish etc, I wound up making hardwood scales on a belt grinder for mine and finishing it with wax. The rubber scales that come on it are pretty ridiculous. The blade design itself is superb. I've done many a camping trip carrying that cheap little knife.

Go for it! The rubber is good/grippy when wet too!Probably 440A?

This is a lot better..AUS 8a steel.

My son has one and you'd be hard pressed to find a sheath knife at that price point that works as well as the profile! It's not perfect but for the 19 dollars it's a steal... the sheath on the other hand borders on comical, its garbage but we made one for it.
Great little knife for the money!
