Hi Everyone,
Could anyone please tell me if this knife is the 12c27 model of the Gerber LMF II?
It has no date on the box, doesnt say it is 12c27,could it be?

If it's fairly new, I'm pretty sure it's not. I believe they stopped making them in the sandvic steel a few years ago.

Hi,Its not new(New old stock). It was purchased in about 2006.

The sheath is nothing like the newer models, old style box and logo as well.

Just trying to work out what steel is used in this one and all I can use to date it is the sheath and box.

This is very hit and miss with Gerber, even Gerber themselves couldn't tell me!

Can you find any sort of ID# on the box? If it was made in 2006, it is definitely 12C27. From Gerber:

***NOTE*** January 2006 – December 2007 this steel type was comprised of Sandvik 12C27 SS.
***NOTE*** January 2008 – April 2008 the steel type was temporarily changed from the Sandvik 12C27 SS to 440A U.S. SS.
***NOTE*** May 2008 – current: Production had not resumed with the Sandvik 12C27 SS due to complications with material availability, but switched to a more closely matching steel, the US 420HC.

Due to inconsistencies with the Sandvik 12C27 and quality concerns; the decision to move forward with the U.S. 420HC was determined to be the best choice and closest match to the Sandvik 12C27 SS. The U.S. 420HC not only exceeded overall performance but also met our high volume and quality production requirements.

Please note that the blades are not stamped or etched as such. The product specifications will be specifically marked on the accompanying packages. The differences between all the steels used, are so closely matched, we believe you will be sincerely challenged to find any performance differences at all.

Hi chiral.grolim,
The only number I saw on the box is the model number.I think from memory it was 1400 or something like that.
The only info I have is that the knife was bought in 2006 from the US.I am the second owner. The only thing I can use to date it is the sheath, its the original style with the bolt-on belt loop.

It's a pity Gerber didnt etch the steel type on the blade or at least make it easier to tell which is which.Dates on the box are from what I've read,a pretty hit and miss way of dating the contents!

I has the sandvik version, judging by the box and sheath Id say thats it. Congrats, the new version sucks.
