hi,

Anybody used the Gerber Recoil Auto-plier yet?
opinions,experiences?

I better keep this thread updated, because it's hard to get some reviews, opinions, experiences on this item :)

greetings,

Mike

I had the gerber recoil auto-pliers for a while.
They are very nice and heavy duty.
Not only does the plier head/jaws shoot out very fast
and lock in place, but the jaws are spring loaded to the
open position. All the additional tools worked well and
locked open. The full open measurement on the jaws is
only 7/8", that is not enough for my tastes.
If you are looking for heavy duty pliers(w/heavy weight)
that have a fun gadget factor than this is the one for you.
I have switched to a leatherman juice. I need it for delicate
work, not power. So the gerber was more than I really needed.
I have never handled the sog product.
Hope this helps a little.

thanks,
the tool seems really cool and perhaps if I buy the Recoil I can accompany it with my juice glacier(CS4) for the extra tools.

I went to Wally World and after taking a quick look at the Recoil I ended up buying it.

Brought it home flicked it out a few times . Pliers had very little play and appeared very robust. I took out my original Leatherman and began comparing it. Over I think my Leatherman is much more versatile. The Gerber has the trick factor to it but the 4 tools on the handle are not worth it for the price. I really dont like being limited to one size of screwdriver. Most bottles I see have screw tops now unlees you have some import beer.

I returned it this morning and began looking for a Swiss Tool in my area for a good price but I may have to find it on the net. Any idea if any major chains are stocking the Swiss Tool? I think that is going to be the one way more functionality less cool factor though.

There was a review of both in our national knife magazin, saying, that the Gerber is the bettter plier, but the SOG has the better ergos consider the other tools. That´s for short. All together they were rated equal. Gerber more solid, SOG better finished and better thought out.

Hey Keyser Soze! Try a Lowes homecenter if you have one in your area. IIRC they carried swiss tools at one time anyway. Maybe they still do. Good luck:)

JTC, Mucho thanks to you. I went down to Lowes and was able to pick one up for just a bit more than $50.00. Much better for my needs and I think it is better overall than the Gerber.

I think the Swiss Tool would look even better with a bead blast finish.
