Gerber 'Recoil' Multiplier...

I fondled one at walmart yesterday & I was not impressed.

It does have a trigger that you can twist to lock closed, but I did not like the tools, they just looked clumsy, & it was odd closing.

Just my quick impression, after just a minute, I didn't like it.
I do have a leatherman wave & a Gerber scout that are much better actually use.

I played with a prototype at SHOT. Compared to the "other" spring loaded plier (SOG's SwitchPlier), I was not impressed. It uses a sliding plier head similar to some of the other Gerbers, backed by coil springs around guide rods. Kind of like a clickie ball point pen. The release trigger was not the easiest to actuate. Personally, I will keep my SwitchPlier.

I played with one yesterday at REI.

Didn't care for it much, especially over the Gerber400 I had on my belt. How do you close the thing? I don't understand, it seems like you really have to push HARD on the tip of the pliers to rewind the spring/close the pliers. Ouch.

Once you get the hang of it, closing the pliers becomes easy. Is it the best multi-tool out on the market? No, but it is useful and fun to use. It may not have all the implements I need in a compact package, but I carry a Leatherman CS4 Juice as my EDC anyway.

Thanks for the feedback guys! At least you have Walmarts to fiddle around with those toys! All I have, is a picture and plenty of questions.. :grumpy:
Cosmic Superchunk ~ AWESOME review dude! :D
