Well, I went over to Dick's Sporting goods today just to check out some stuff and get out of the house. I was hoping to pick up a Kershaw Antelope Hunter II since it seemed like a good small FB and a friend could use something like that.

Sadly they were out of them and I could use a new small EDC(Thank you NJ), so the $7 Gerber SB 2.5 was it. To the review!

• Blade Length: 2.5"
• Blade: 440A stainless steel blade

The blade size and handle size seem perfect for a small knife I can just throw in my pocket and forget about. No clip is fine since I rarely use it anyway. Came pretty sharp too, with no edge defects.

The thumb stud though is a pain. It has sharp edges, which help to catch your finger to open the knife, but there is so much resistance and the handle is so small that one hand opening is nearly impossible. Again, it isn't too big of a deal, just an inconvenience at times.

Besides the thumb stud and handle size, both being limitations of a knife this size, the debris/crapola that was on the knife(in the packaging mind you) was pretty crazy. A bunch of dust on the inside of the knife, crapola in the chimping and in the handle. Not a big deal since it took a second to clean, but something to point out.

Overall, I like the knife. I think the narrower, pointier blade is more useful for a folder this size compared to my ripstop. Here are some photos for your viewing pleasure.

I don't mean to offend you, but it looks like a good review of a cheap, made in China, piece of crap knife with an uncomfortable handle.

Nice pictures, though.

Thanks for the review and look at the Gerber SB. May it serve you well.

Blessings...

Gerber doesn't appear to be all that "creative" these days. Case in point:

Looks kinda like this:

It all started with this:

Which looks a lot like this:

No offense taken. Gerber is the all-in-one brand in reality. They make or sell damn near everything. It was a new knife and I was bored lol, thought I'd throw something together.

For the price, it isn't a bad knife to abuse and not worry about. Now if I get a Manix II or Leafstorm or something along those lines, I'm pretty sure we'll all be singing a different tune lol.

Sorry but that cracks me up. Your description of the knife is spot on. My pictures and your description make up a perfect one liner review.

Great review. Thank for taking the time to put this up. But...I am going to have to agree with "shangchi108".

Nice review.

The "swoop" for the thumbstud is backwards, making it hard to get ones thumb under the stud.

True, if it were the other way, it'd be a lot better. I wish I knew more about the inner workings of Gerber. Maybe it is just be, but with a knowledge of a CAD program you'd think designing a knife like this would be easy. I'd also imagine they have some CNC machines to do a quick test run to make sure the knife actually worked.

The thing is your pictures make that knife look A LOT better than what
it really is. Someone who didn't know better would probably rush to
buy it just based on the pics!

Lol. It truly isn't a bad knife. Came really sharp for what I was expecting. Fairly solid, though in this price range you get thin plastic washers. It has no clip and folds up with no blade exposed making a good EDC. Just need to know it's role.

I'll take the photo comment as a compliment in any case. I need to get out and take some pics of my good knives and not the cheapos.
