gerber shortcut vs. leatherman micra or squirt

i thought of a last minute val. gift for my husband. he has had multi-tools for his keychain but one thing or another happened to them (airport, jury duty taken away :( )... well i also wanted to get it and have it engraved w/ his initials. i found a place nearby that will do this, but i have to get it to them tomorrow.
i bought the gerber shortcut today (grey) and then read some reviews on it. i'm not too sure if it's the best choice. so tonight i went out and bought the micra, (silver) but i'm not too happy with the looks and where you can engrave on it. the looks of the shortcut are so nice. i've read good things on the micra and squirt- the squirt would look good engraved but it will be hard to locate the color i want in time for engraving... and it's alot more money too... yikes!
quality is definitely of utmost importance to me and my husband. but looks are too. i don't want to go w/ the gerber just because of looks if it's a crapper.
if anyone has any insight on this... i'd love to hear from everyone! i know sometimes it's hard to tell with reviews.
i have both the shortcut and micra in my possession right now, just waiting to figure out what's the best option before i take it to the engraver tomorrow. thanks so much in advance for your advice! my husband is a knife collector. he has the larger leatherman multi-tool, some nice spyderco knives, etc...

Personally I'd go with the LM-Micra. Have had one on my keychain for the better part of a decade. The scissors are a must. And over-all quality is superb. It has all the little tools I need for small jobs. And even some I can't think of right away.

Besides, with a stainless steel-finish, you won't have to worry about colors because it matches every single piece of clothing I can think of, unless of course your husband likes to go night-time hunting, it might be 'flashy' in low-light conditions, but it's also easier to locate at night if your looking for your keys in the dark.

Lastly, and please pardon my french, I think almost all Gerbers are POS. :barf:

Just my 2 cents. Good luck with your choice, I'm sure your husband will love you more either way.

My advice is to go with the Micra..your husband apparently has an eye for quality..and from what I understand, the anodizing on the squirts will chip with time and usage..something you needn't worry about with the micra.

Yup, like I said in general, The micra is the way to go, geber unfortunatly just doesn't make quality anymore.

thank you so much from a clueless giving wife (well not so clueless cause i get into his hobbies w/ him but great to hear a collector point of view since i can't get his opinion :) ).
i am feeling very confident now in returning the gerber- too many negative things said here and on reviews. and i was tempted to go hunt down the squirt in the grey color... but now i feel good about just keeping the micra. he did have that once and liked it, but i think it was tossed at the airport or lost w/ his keys at a restaurant. i will have it engraved and even though it might of looked better on the gerber... that's not what's important... i don't want it to be a POS!... thanks again!
