I was looking at one of the double edge versions of this knife, and have a question....The handle guards look like they are made out of zytel or some other type of polymer, do they have metal in them? Has anyone had any problems with them breaking?

Any ideas in general with the Silver Trident?

I wonder if anybody has actually bought one of these? They look neat but seem a little pricey.:)

Gerber provided me one to eval.

I was way uncertain about this one but...

Solid design (thanks to Bill Harsey). Materials are excellent. Workmanship sound. Sheath is above average. Yes, the guards are a poly but are super tough. No problems experienced. Very sharp out of box and easy to keep sharp. Handle / grip is very comfortable in either forward or reverse grip. More than adequate as close quarters knife IMHO.

Price is high but they are paying for Harsey and Watson's names and involvement in the project. Shop around you can find for less on internet and such. It is a quality blade and a good accomplishment for Gerber, whose military knife line has suffered in the past.

Thanks for the info...

Those were very simaler to my thoughts when I first handled a double edged version a while back. It seams to be an excellent knife...I love the balance, and length. The Grip is very nice, kinda sticky..just right.

The only downside I could think of was the poly guards...But have yet to come across someone who has found them to be a problem under a CQB/Combat situation.

The finish fealt different than almost any other finish I've seen on a knife...Its not bad, just fealt different...had dust stick to it almost...but cleaned up nice with a drop of FP10.

I have one of these and I love it. There is, however, an article that haunts me to this day. It was made a few years back, when the introduced this blade, and I cannot seem to re-find it, but it showed the blade broken in half right about where the back serrations start, 1 inch or so from the handle. The author had an early model and had struck the blade somehow, causing it to break. I think it was obvious misuse of the blade, but...
