Well, I missed out on the Busse NARK by a couple days, so I decided to use the money I set aside for one on a Silver Trident instead, this being a knife I've wanted for a little while. It came yesterday, and all I can say is WOW. This is about the most impressive production knife I've ever gotten, with the exception of my 2 CRK's. I got the version with the second set of Chisel Tip Serrations, and they really will cut like a saw. I tested it on a piece of seasoned 1" diameter oak, and couldn't get all the way through, but did get about a third of the way on my first try. I think it could have done more, had I stayed at it. The knife is shaving sharp on both the upper and lower cutting edges and has the sharpest tip of any knife I've ever had, including an original Gerber Mark II (no longer with me  ) The handle and guard are hardened polyamide or plastic of some form, but are extremely tough, and fits my hand perfectly. Finally, the butt cap could actually drive nails, as claimed in their advertising. Very solid. Overall one sweet knife, plus it comes with an excellent BlackHawk Sheath.

Well, I did a little more testing today, used the butt cap to drive a couple 8 penny nails through an old stereo speaker, no problem. Also, used the upper serrations to saw through a couple 1/2 inch thick saplings. That took a little effort, but not much. Overall I'm quite impressed so far.

I have one of these and really like it. Very nicely made. I think alot of people are put off by the msrp.

This is a decent looking knife :

The grinds on the one I have are a little off, the tip isn't evenly split for example. The handle is nice and comfortable, and the buttcap does look like a fine hammer. I usually don't like full guards, but this is a military / fighting knife which are slanted more towards extreme grip retention.

The only big drawbacks I see are the steel, 154CM is a bit brittle for this type of knife, and the price. For ~190$ I would look towards Swamp Rat and a Camp Tramp or Battle Rat, and for stainless the Becker line would be a solid choice.

That being said I look forward to trying this one out when I get some time. Interesting feedback on the saw, how does it compare time and effort wise to just hacking or slicing through the woods.

How do the serrations work on ropes and other media.

I just assumed it was, they were talking about it a long time ago on the forums. Have they given a release date yet?

I have not heard anything in a good while. I think someone mentioned October, but I'm not sure.
I thought maybe you'd heard something when I read your post.

Cliff, I haven't tried the serrations on rope yet, but the chisel tip ones are a lot more efficient than trying to hack through wood, at least hard wood like oak or ash. Soft maples or pine I suspect would be easier to chop through than cut with these serrations.

Hey Guys...

I agree with Cliff on this one...

Trident is a nice looking knife,,well made in my opinion, and although I don't own one,,or put any through anything more than a paper cutting test,, I've handled several...

For anything other than fairly light camp chores,, I'd much rather have my Swampers or Beckers any day of the week...Especially in that price range....

For less in price,, you can get a seriously Hardcore blade BK7 or 9 or the SwmapRat CT...

I'd love to own a Trident just to have, but I'm afraid it would become a drawer queen next to my other blades...

ttyle

Eric....
