Gerber Spectre vs. EDi Genesis I or II

Hey everybody,
This is my current dilemma. I am interested in the Gerber Spectre, but have been distracted by the EDi Genesis. I've heard some things about the Spectre like the blade hitting the back spacer. Is the Spectre not as high quality as EDi?
And if I decide to get a Genesis, should I look for the Genesis I or the Genesis II? I can get a Genesis I black blade from a guy I know for about $70, is that a good deal? I thought maybe I should go ahead get an EDi because they're harder to find than Spectres now that they're no longer made. Any thoughts, reviews, comparisons, etc? Please excuse my rambling writing, it's just a mild case of knife-lust indecision...

Genesis 1 is the way to go over the Gen2. Gen 1 has 2 Ti liners for added strength and less flex. I have a Gen 2, black blade and like it, but the lock has too much play in it for my tastes. The blade can move about 2mm up or down and u can see the lock slide over when pressure is applied to the back of the blade. Takes and holds a nice edge, but after a few sharpenings, the edge is kinda thick.

mgeoffriau -- do you live in a time warp? Or do I? I'd have sworn that you posted on your new Spectre today? How do you do that?

Hey Bugs,
Check the dates on my posts...I actually posted about my new (and now no longer mine) Spectre one day after I started this thread.
Of course, I DO have time-travel ability, I just didn't need to use it here.

Mike has a Gen 1 new for 70 in the dealer forum! I have one and think they are under rated. It has been used quite hard and has held up well. It is built like a tank with g10, titanium, bronze bushings, etc! Mine developed some side-to-side play. I took it apart and honed the ends of the blade pivot bushing and now it is incredibly tight but will still flip open easily. I think it is a great knife and even though it continues to pop up that EDI is still in business, their phones have been disconnected and they do not respond to ANY inquiries.

mgeoffriau -- that is what I meant. One day before, you post asking advice on which of two knives to buy. The next day you've made your decision, bought and received the knife -- this is probably my weakness here, I think in terms of ordering over the Internet only, not brick and mortar stores -- and decided you didn't like it. If I had written the first post, I'd still have 5-6 days to go before I ever received the knife. No biggy, but in my mental state -- I'm not totally revealing my whereabouts -- it seemed impossibly fast. Hence my question. Later, I realized you could have headed straight out to a store and bought it.

Honing the sides of the bushing, eh? Cool! Gotta try that! Mine has a good amount of side to side play, and when i put pressure on the back of the blade, you can see the lock slip. With that and the play, i don't really like it much. And the gen 2 has only 1 liner, so it is too flexy for me cuz I am a big guy

it is a nice carry. Slim and site DEEP in the pocket, no part of the knife sticks out. Cuts well and feels good, but I like a heftier folder.

Another choice would be the DDR kit from Texas knifemakers supply and Kovals. AUS8A (same steel cold steel uses) (cryo'd at TKS, not sure if kovals does or not). Approx 3" blade. ROCK solid lockup, no play ANYWHERE in it at all, and smoother than almost anything I have seen, including LCC and a Benza. $30 for the kit, plus $$$ for the handle material. The complete kit is $50 with handle and spacer already drilled and cut. Sharp, too. Very good liner lock, it's the only kit knife that i have seen that i would recommend to people

Quality is VERY good.
