I bought a Specter and had the problem where the blade hits the spacer at the back of the knife. In my opinion this is a major flaw. I sent it back to Gerber who said this is the intended design and cannot fix it. Does anybody else feel this is a major design flaw?

Any chance the spacer is Zytel? Checked my old LST. So far as I can tell, a small portion of the forward belly of the blade rests on the Zytel handle on it. Can't say it has ever affected the edge any. Maybe Gerber has been doing that for donkeys years now.

In my opinion, no, that does not make it ok.

It's not good that the blade be hitting anything when it closes, as repetetive impacts against the edge, no matter what the materiel, will eventually dull it. Especially if a very fine edge is put on the knife.

However, if gerber say it's an intended design, then there isn't a great deal you can do about it...
