Does anyone have one of these? I may be getting one in a trade and want to know how they would fair in a survival situation.

Do a search. I field tested one about 4 months ago. I think it's one of Gerbers few good knives. It holds an edge better than I thought.

first let me tell you i am a HUGE fan of Gerber and own alot of their knives and tools. that being said, i do not like the Steadfast very much as a large sheath knife for my personal preferances. this does not mean that it is a bad knife though.

it is made of 440A stainless steel, which is ok, however it is a lower grade steel. i have smaller folders that are made out of 440A, and thats ok, im not expecting to cut wood or dig a hole or really abuse my smaller folders. the steadfast may be easy to sharpen, but may not hold an edge for long if used heavily in a serious situation.

the other reason i personally dont care for it is that, due to the major finger grooves it is only comfortable to hold the knife one way. i use knives that can be held with the blade pointed up or down in the hand.

The best current production Gerber sheath knife is the LMF II; i now own two of them, one to always keep on my emergency vest, the other i take out in the wilds. This knife has a ton of features and is tough as nails.

Best to you and yours- Eric
