I have an older Gerber Gator, marked First Production Run. Do any of you guys know which steel they used when these first came out?

I have one from a couple of years ago and Gerber describes it as "high carbon stainless". According to their site the newest models use 154CM and 420HC.

Back then Gerber was a totally diffirent company so I assume the first production run used better steels. I've heard of Gators in ATS-34 but I don't know when they were made.

The Gator first came out in 1991 and I am not 100% sure but I think they were 440A.

Current production, where ever that is, is 420HC.

However, mine is actually marked Made in USA. I was told that Gerber used different steel in their first runs. I was just curious if that was true, and if so, which stainless it is.
