I bought a Gerber Strongarm off Amazon. I was so excited to get it, but it doesn't look right to me, and I've been reading a lot about Strongarm counterfeits, because it's such a great knife. Now I'm worried. Does anyone know how to spot a Gerber Strongarm counterfeit?

The two biggest indicators for me are the "shiny" Gerber logo on the sheath (*authentic) and the overly-forward "Made in USA/Portland, OR" markings on the blade (*fake).

Again, there are SO MANY reputable USA retailers that carry these, you'd be remiss to purchase one on Amazon.

If your (R)-side blade markings don't line-up with this one, yeah, you've probably got a counterfeit... :(

I just looked and see a reputable dealer has them for the same price as Amazon.

OP- I am sorry you are having to deal with issues, but returning it and getting one you know is the real thing is worth it imo.

So many scammers and fakes abound- very crappy.

I almost fell for the counterfeit Strongarm one time too. Yeah, they're everywhere. I still want one because I think they're sweet, and I check the price on them once in a while. It seems like the market stays pretty steady on them price wise, unless I'm missing the good sales. But yeah, like others said, stick to the dealers you know are good for it, like the dealers who do business with this forum.

why take a chance, send it back and purchase from a reputable dealer

LOL....One big clue to it being fake is that it was bought on Amazon........

As a "Strongarm" fan, I can tell you that Amazon is FULL of counterfeits.

As some have mentioned, stick to well-known and reputable Dealers.

Making these blanket statements that Amazon is not a reputable place, or that getting it from Amazon means automatically its fake is disingenuous.

There are some fakes on there but if you are using a modicum of common sense you can avoid fakes.

I think even Gerber sells Gerber knives on Amazon.

It's not disingenuous, they are saying why risk a counterfeit when you can get one from a reputable place with no chance of a counterfeit?

People buy real knives on Amazon and return counterfeits, when it is resold, isn't someone buying that counterfeit?

It's not as easy as you may hope, to be sure you get the real deal on amazon.

No, incorrect, wrong even.....Amazon is absolutely chock full of counterfeits from China, just like ebay. Yes some stuff is real but you better know how to tell the difference. If you don't know the difference you should assume its fake.

How could I be wrong? Where did I say there weren't fakes on Amazon?

None of what you just rambled about did I say was incorrect.

All I said that making the generalization that if you get it from Amazon its fake is incorrect.

What we can debate is how to tell.

I'm not sure what you say about determining a fake on Amazon is as easy as just making sure the seller is reputable, and of course feedback.

You have to look at the actual seller on Amazon. I have bought Buck knives from Copper and Clad through Amazon. As an example. Buck even sells on Amazon.

What do you know, common sense.

The seller, feedback, and even the free returns gives a buyer all of what he needs.

Welcome to the site. Sorry your first post had to deal with this issue. I would return it and buy from a reputable source to avoid issues later with the knife.
