Gerber Strongarm- Not a fan of Gerber, but this has me intrigued...

To be honest I would have the KA-BAR MK1 . simaler in style and price with better steel lmo

I'd take this over the Kabar, but both are geared toward military rather than civilian use. It's good to see more quality USA-made Gerber products coming out.

It's nice to see companies paying more attention to sheath design. I like the itnerchangeable factor, haven't seen that before. Plus the ergonomics on the handle look really nice. I'd buy this over a KaBar.

Anyone poo-pooing 420HC can send me their Buck 119s please

I keep seeing the Ka-Bar comparison, but what struck me the most was that for the $60 price tag you got a sheath that youd need to buy separately from most Ka-Bars youd buy. Just a thought...

I am interested, always wanted a plain edge prodigy. Now I can have one with a better sheath.

I wouldn't compare it with a regular size ka-bar, its closer in size to the SEAL Pup category. The steel is fine for what it is, easy to sharpen in the field and corrosion resistant. Think about who Gerber markets their products toward, non-knife guys/gals who don't take very good care of an expendable item. Great choice for a user blade that you won't shed a tear over when you lose it.

I'm very excited about the Gerber Strongarm even though I don't care for the "strongarm" name.
Nonetheless I have been wanting a plain edge LMF II and this is fairly close. I really like the sheath and overall design and am ok but not thrilled with 420HC. I buy a lot of knives so it's not really a this over that as much as a this AND that.:)
The thing I really like about the strongarm is the look of it and the sheath. It seems well thought out and can be carried a number of ways. Plus it's made in Portland which I'm really glad to see.

For a cheap backup I decided to pick up a Prodigy and I have to say I am pretty impressed for $38. I dont mind the steel, plus it is a USA made blade. The sheath isnt terrible and the grind lines were pretty impressive as well. I was even more surprised at how sharp it was out of the box. I always held off because of the serrations but I am glad I finally picked one up. I do like the looks of the Strongarm with the plain edge option. I will probably pick one up eventually as long as it doesnt cost more than the $60ish dollar range and I also like the direction they are going toward more USA made stuff.

I'm hoping the price on the StrongArm drops a bit. I bought the 12C27 LMFII ASEK early on for ~$90, you can get it for <$75 now.

I bought one of these recently and I really like it. The sheath is well thought out and the handle is very comfortable.i got the brown and black one but also plan on getting the all black one. Both in plain edge of course.
