Howdy folks!!

Today i'm extatic...

When i came home this evening after school i found the house locked and "abandoned"... mom, dad and sis had gone to town, and I had no key.

I jumped onto my scooter to cool my rage. When I've been driving a few kilometres, i stopped at a bus halt. And there, pushed down into the sand and dirt a almost brand new Gerber multitool!!

I dipped it in gasoline to clean it, and now, thae day ended with a new toy for me!!

PS!!
In a situation like that norwegians says: "finner er vinner" that means that the one who finds it wins it...

Dang I lost that thing this morning! You can mail it to me at:

JK- that really is a killer find!!

Not2Sharp: I do have a copy of that key... the problem is that the copy was inside the house

maybe you can help me identify exact model of the tool..
I visited the gerber homesite www.gerberblades.com.
But it seemed to me like their tools had been modified in some kind.
They had a new lock mecanism for the tools, mine have the same "lock" as the earliest Leatherman Tools had.

My conclusion is that the tool is a older model, sold from a small sports shop.

As i said this tool is in almost factory new, it still has the factory edge on both the serrated and regular blade. The only sign of wear i can see is that the Phillips screwdriwer is used.

I just don't wanna believe it is a ripoff.
It does say GERBER and U.S.A, to this day I have never seen a ripoff with the exact same name as the original. They often tend to "misspell" the name in some kind, like LATHERMEN or somthing like that..

If i was ripping of I would never use their name like that, and risk getting sued by one of the most recognized knife manufacturer in the world...

I'm sorry to say that our digital camera is broken, so I cant give a pic for you.

Do the plier jaws slide forward, or do the handles fold over the jaws like a Leatherman?

The the plier slides forward, yes...

The wirecutter has a mark, like it has been cutting somthing hard... The strange thing is that only one of the jaws has it, the other one is "clean"

but, WTF.. i can strip cables with that mark...

I did do a few pics, but with a standard cam, ill post the pics on my homepage in a while... I'll let you know...

I believe Gerber made (makes?) a model that is basically a clone of the original Leatherman for sale to the military. Sorry I can't remember anything more about it.

Hey Norwegian,
Unless something's up, you do have a real Gerber. The original Gerber Multi-Plier was similar in design to the newest Gerber's (sliding jaws, etc.) but it is not identical. It did have the simple tension "lock" for the blades, instead of the new lock they use. Post some pics and I can verify for sure, but I'm willing to bet you just have a slightly older, but still great multitool. BTW, these things are built like tanks, aren't they? A lot thicker handles than Leathermans and the like. Congrats.

An older model? That was my guess too!! I am sure i've seen it in a catalog for hunting and camping gear. I just cant find it...

Oh, yes its really rugged and solid. It is a bit wobbly, but thats probably because it has been run over by a few cars before i found it.

I applied a few drops of White Lightning (tried that? www.whtlight.com its great stuff!!) to the tool and jaw pivot, now it work like new!!

Of course the pics are on their way!!

Is this it? (apologies to some guy on ebay for using his pic) This is the model I have, it's the original Multi Plier.

Why on earth did you dip it in gasoline?

From my younger days knocking around with cars & hanging at garages, I know that gas is a great solvent to clean gunked up parts. Of course, that was before gas was $1.80 a gallon!

bquinlan, the Military Provisional Tool (MPT) has folding jaws like the Leatherman, which is why I asked the question. Sounds like our friend has an older Multi-Pliers.

yup, gasoline is very good for cleaning, an other reason was that i didnt have any other cleaning fluids at hand then...

$1.80 a gallon? thats cheap!! in Norway we pay over 1$ a LITRE!!! as far as i know there is about three litres on an american gallon, right?
