Just got this little bad boy..

Awesome choice if you want the aesthetics and design of a Hinderer blade without the lack of food, housing, and wife!

Not quite sure why it's compared to the XM-18 all the time, it's definitely much more closely related to the Flame.

It's 440A, which..won't chip. That's all to be said for that. It actually is relatively good with abrasion resistance, so if you have a knife steel, you're in good shape.

It flips open and locks up rather nicely, and it's got a Hinderer style cutout (On the CORRECT side of the lockbar, thank you very much) but no Hinderer button.

The Zytel is textured the same as the Hinderer knives I've handled, so that was kinda cool. Im in the process of making a G10 scale for this knife, it's begging for it.

Don't be afraid to shell out a whopping $25 for this blade, it is definitely a fun way to get a tiny, inaccurate taste of the Flame or XM-18 experience!

It's undoubtedly got all the Hinderer pedigree you'll find, and the design definitely makes up for so-so materials.

Stolen designs + Gerber = :thumbdn:

Yet another stupid comment about Gerber stealing designs, which has NEVER happened as far as I know.

Go read the "about me" on Hinderer's site and come back tell me if it's a stolen design.

Well this is just totally incorrect. It was a collaboration not a stolen design. Google is your friend and at least gives the appearance that you know what your talking about.

My only complaint about the Torch is that mine is really hard to open. The XM-18 I have opens if you look at it crooked, and this Torch is at the opposite end of the spectrum. I think some adjustment will help, so it's not a major issue.

It's definitely got a monster of a detent. I haven't held it side by side with an XM18 yet, (I have however handled an Xm18 before) but a knife nut friend of mine has a Flame, and the flipper is much taller on the Flame, being a larger knife.

Not quite sure how to adjust the detent strength..Or the size of the knife! ;)

I didn't buy knife to use, it's just a toy for the coffee table.

i bought one of these just for **** and giggles, but actually, i was pretty impressed.
it's kinda small, but fairly functional.
mine flips open with no problem.
for an inexpensive knife, i don't think it's all that bad.
later,
don

Good Grief man...does no one look for any facts before posting anymore?:thumbdn:

Even without checking facts, it was pretty obviously a Hinderer based on the OP.

Don, I agree, it's nice. My only complaint is that the texturing is 90* off from a Hinderer produced scale! Kinda silly if you ask me.

Probably just an overly tight pivot screw on mine, then. Sounds like a frickin' cemetery gate creaaaaking open when I try to open the knife. I think I'll try to disassemble and give it a good lube - assuming I can get the pivot screw off without stripping the head.

Good luck..I trashed mine trying to remove it for no reason.

I bought another because I love the thing so much.

Again, it's a toy, not a user for me, so I want it to be perfect.

Knowledge is your friend. A few seconds on Google can save an awful lot of grief on an Internet forum.

That's the only reason I don't own one. Every one I've handled has had one heck of a detent.

Best of luck. Haven't had a Gerber pivot screw survive an attempt at loosening or disassembly yet..

My Air Ranger is super cooperative when it comes to screws, it's too bad the Torch is not.

For what it's worth, all framelock detents loosen up as time goes on, as I'm sure you know. In the week I've had this knife, it's become very fast and easy on the flipper.

It worked! I'm not sure it will work a second time, but I have the screw set to the point where I'm happy, and the knife is now a reformed and functioning member of society.

I'd like to know where Gerber gets those screws. They look like metal, but are actually made out of soft, soft butter. The knife says "buddy, you got three chances to find a T8 I will accept, and after that, you're gonna have to drill this thing out. And here's a free tip - I'm gonna spit out the first one you try."

Don't drill...use a diamond cut-off blade (Harbor Freight Tools) in a Dremel tool and SLOT the screw head.
Works like a champ!! :)

Lucky bastard.

I payed 25 at the 'Center for mine.
