which would you take on a weekend camping trip doing fishing, hiking, firestarting and all the fun things we do with knives while we're outdoors??? GERBER LMF2 or GERBER SILVER TRIDENT........

Gerber LMF2 hands down, I find the Gerber silver trident not a very practical knife for doing fishing, hiking, firestarting and all the fun things we do with knives while we're outdoors.

I would probably take my Camp Tramp first and all others would be secondary after that. But if all I had was one of two of the choices I'd go with the Silver Trident. It looks like the handle is more rugged to me and I rather like the guard on it. (That and the bigger blade. ) But without ever handling either its a tough call. Other than the guard the blade shapes look similar to me.

I have not used the LMF2, but have the Trident. I would take the LMF2 readily based on a cleaner design and much more suitable steel. It is likely to need a heavy regrind to function well as a camping/outdoor knife. The promotion of the knife is on extreme tasks such as "crushing skulls", knocking holes in concrete, etc. .

I always need to crush a lot of skulls while camping. :D

I haven't had either knife, so I can't really say. Wouldn't buy a Fiskars Gerber product, either.

This is off topic, but Rat, what is that knife in the bottom of your signature line? I've been admiring it for a while but havent found a time to ask.

Take the LMF2! First thing you do is when you get out in the woods is to cover you face, neck, and hands with your infrared/microwave/visible/x-ray/sonic/untrasonic absorbing face camo, and then try to cut down a long straight sappling. Your LMF2 will not be much help here, so I'd suggest you take a SAK with a saw. Then lash your LMF2 to the end of the pole via the spear-binding holes, and then with a vicious warcry, charge a bull moose or warhog or grizzly bear or some other animal that will validate your manhood. After the animal is done trampling you, you can use the screwdriver and tweezers of your SAK to put together the pieces of your cellphone and try to call for medvac.

I've actually had a good experience with my Pak-Axe. Is there a philosophical reason for your Gerber Fiskars avoidance or just the bad memories of the substandard blades of the "new" Fiskars-owned Gerber?

I would throw away both Gerber's and just get a SAK.
I'm starting to get deja-vu from the Wilderness and Survival Skills sub-forum. Are you Sak-guy from KF, by chance?
