Hello,
has anyone any experience with Gerber Wallowa?

I could not find any mention of blade steel apart from "stainless", probably the cheapest pot metal available ... :(
Probably made in China, given the price. What a pity, the design is not bad ...

steel is probably 440, good rust resistance, tough, but edge wears fast., might be ok just for caping.

if youre looking for a good , stag handle knife, try one of the Gerber Steadfasts

Its actually not a bad knife, I dont know if it's made in china, but it does seem to hold a good edge and take a pretty good beating. The edge retention isnt a good a my Knives of alaska alpha wolf, but it withstand some pretty good abuse. I do believe the steel is some kind of 440, because i believe that gerber makes a pretty decent amount of knives with 440. I could be worng though, I dont know that much about gerbers line of knives. One thing i didnt like was that it didnt come out of the box shaving sharp. I had to touch it up on a steel, then a strop. but it did sharpen up quickly. Anyway, its a pretty decent knife. Definetly a keeper in my book.

I have one and it didn't hold an edge during a 3 day backpacking trip. Had to rely on a flipper. In fact, its the whole reason I ended up on here...after I did a ton of research and bought a JK Hiker instead. I'm much more into American made stuff.
The Wallowa is a good design, but Chinese and with cheap stainless 440. I didn't know any better at the time I bought it. It does sharpen up nice, but I don't think it holds it too long. I bought an Izula since as a backup.
I have had it one craigslist for weeks trying to sell it for $20 with no bites. i finally am just leaving it in my truck.
