Does anyone have experience with this knife? I work in a shop that has a couple and I was thinking of getting one but I dont know if it would be worth it since I can get a SoG Seal Team elite for alot cheaper. I was going to keep it in my SHTF bag. What do you think?

My finger hovered over the buy button for a long time on the Gerber Trident. Although I have never personally held one, I reasoned myself out of the purchase and bought a much better knife for the same amount of money. The price has come down dramatically since then, but I would still rather spend my money somewhere else.

I have one. Mine has the double serrations. I would prefer it have the seerations only on the bottom but I got a good deal on mine and it was the only option available. I would prefer no serrations but thats not an option. Anyway on to my thoughts on the knife.

The Silver Trident has a VERY comfortable handle. It has alot of shaping and texturing that makes it feel very good in the hand. You really have to hold one I think to appreciate how nice it is. Mine came very sharp top and bottom. My understanding is it was designed as a knfe to work around water more than a woods knife so in an aquatic environment I can see it shining. Cutting rope and cord and such. It has some sort of black coating on the blade that realy looks tough like some sort of teflon or something. Its not powder coating or anything like that. Very thin and lets the very precise grinds of the knife show through. It has in my opinion a very subdued business like look.

It came with a Blackhawk sheath that seems to work very well with it. It has a tab on the sheath that clicks into the handle of the knife holding it in without using the keeper strap yet you can draw the knife quite easily.

You know how alot of people criticze Gerber and lament the loss of knives like the MKII (which has returned) the BMF and other older Gerbers? Well in my opinion the Silver Trident is in the style of the "older" gerbers. Well made, nicely designed and really cool to look at.

I do think the MSRP is high (which ones aren't?) but if you can get one in the $150-170 range I think it's a pretty good buy.
