I searched "Yari" and "Nimravus" in topic headings and found two threads. I tried to respond to the most recent of them (from January 2001), but the forum was closed. I also searched "Yari" and "Nimravus" in the body of threads. Good reading with the edge going to the Yari, but not by much.

It looks like it's been over a year since this topic has been addressed directly. There should be more people out there with hands on experience with both knives. I'm particularly interested in comparisons of the Yari with the M2 Nimravus.

If Hoodoo loves the Yari, that's good enough for me. Hoodoo knows his blades. It's too bad they both have blackened blades though. Don't get conned into the serrated versions.

Buzz,
I agree 100% that Hoodoo knows his blades. One problem, he likes his Nimravus too :) :) :)

The Nimravus is a really good production knife. I have used mine extensively and really like it. The factory sheath sucks. I replaced mine with an excellent concealex sheath from On/Scene Tactical.

I removed the coating and filed off the thumb serrations. BAHDog, Owen and Hoodoo have done similiar modifications. Sgt. Mike likes his as well.

Diletante,
I have done some comparisons for French on-line magazine a couple of time ago, you can still find it here.
Please don’t care about picture “pixeloze”, this is not my guilt, something wrong went with their image editing software.

Yup, They're right, I like my Nimravus very well and see no reason to replace it with a similar blade. It sports an OST sheath system, too. Best combo for my money and personal needs.

If I were to do it over again, I wouldn't. However, there's a sleeper in this category that needs serious consideration ... the Camillus Talon in 154CM.

Mike

SGT. Mike,
I have a talon, in talonite though, and I really prefer the Nimravus.

Take care,
Chad

I have both the Nimravus and the Yari The Nimravus is the better slicer, the Yari is stronger and the Yari handle is light years better than the Nimravus. The sheaths of both are less than optimal.

I much prefer the Yari, due to the bigger and better shaped handle. The Benchmade handle is too small for my hand and has square corners in the wrong locations.

It was Hoodoo's recommendation of the Yari as his "hands down" choice for a 4" to 6" fixed blade for purposes I posted in another thread. His recommendation carries a lot of weight with me and got me thinking about the Yari. The similarity of the Yari and Nimravus are obvious, and when I read some more of Hoodoo's posts here and in another forum I concluded he had a high opinion of that knife as well.

I need to handle both knives, but my research to date--including Sergiusz Mitin's excellent comparison of the Yary and ATS-34 Nimravus--has me leaning toward the Yari--especially given it's $65 price at Wholesale Hunter ($76 with shipping). The Yari is a little thicker (3.6 mm versus 3.0 mm) and longer (123 mm versus 117 mm) than the Nimravus, but has a higher grind and the same edge thickness. The Nimravus retains it's full 3 mm thickness to within 17 mm of the tip while the Yari is only 2 mm thick at 17 mm, but Sergiusz didn't notice any difference as a practical matter.

An M2 Nimravus might compare more favorbly with a Yari, but $30 to $40 more favorably?
