I bought the Yari from a fellow member used (though it looks brand new) and think it will make an excellent field utility and day hiking blade. It's much lighter than I expected, and the handle feels better than I thought it would. It's the perfect size between big chopper, and SAK that I've been looking for! The sheath is top notch as well.

I agree 100%. I didn't like how they looked but when I picked one up I was surprised at how good it felt in my hand. I also have a Nimravus which I like for how it feels. Although the two knives are very similar, I find they are still quite different in how they feel to me. Both are great general purpose medium sheath knives.

I've been surprised I haven't heard more raving reviews about the Yari.

Sincerest Regards,
Nobody

What's the Yari's blade shape? I followed the link over at Hoods Woods, but the pic didn't load. The name sounds Japanese, so I'm envisioning a tanto-point of some type. But it sounds like a good size for an intermediary blade. I've been looking at the CQB 2 for that same purpose. Plus, I've never had a knife with ATS-34 steel, or Micarta handle, so it would be a totally new experience for me. :~}

An article I read on it stated that a Yari is a type of Japanese spear. The blade hads a nice, shallow drop, and would probably be considered a spear point. The general shape and feel would make it a practical hunting knife, personal defense blade, or field utility blade. It seems to just be an all around useable knife! I was using it to make some fire boards for friction firemaking, and it whittles and cuts like a pro. I used it as a drawknife and scraper, and the edge didn't roll and is still really sharp.

I tried to post earlier today, but had some problems, so I'll try again. :~}

Thanks, Nobody, for the pic. Really nice looking knife.

Tknife, from the picture, that does look like a good grip, but I have fairly small hands, so that's subjective. And I can believe that it's a great whittler and all-around nice utillity knife. The picture looks like the knife has a good grind. That's one of the best things about this type of fourm, it gives you all of these really great knives to drool over. If I ever manage to buy all the knives on my "wish list", my house would sink under the strain of all that steel.

Have the Yari for some time now. The handle feels a lot better to me than the Nimravus. The only thing that would be better is if they made a smaller version. BTW I tried taking off the scales but to no avail. Gerber must use some locktite or something on them.
