Ok im a theatre tech guy that when i need a tool its never around and i have been looking at the gerber 400sr and they look all right anyone got any sujestions or perhaps some nice leathermans....i perfer gerber though

The Gerber is a good choice. I like the one hand deployment. But more important look at the tools you will use and buy from there.

well the features that i would like would be a wrench and various screws and knife and scissors i do like the one hand open for gerber......

ok so gerber seems very nice but i am a worry wart......im looking at a 400sr can anyone give there stories about the gerber 400sr and what they think...which on is the best "deal"....thanks all your readers...

My daughter is in theater and I got drafted to work on a pretty complex set (Titanic...the musical). At that time (2003) I was mainly carrying a Gerber legend 800 and recall that I used the saw a few times and the scissors many times for emergencies backstage. I probably could have done just as well with nearly anything else but I certainly have nothing bad to say about any of the Gerber line. If you really think you'll need a wrench, I'd carry one or take a look at the Spyderco wrench tool. ;)

i know ill need a wrench i do lighting and when in the celling above the theatre and u need a wrench and forgot to bring one then i think gerber will help but anyone know any other wrench multi tools......

I believe to each is own! I am in the Army and was issued a Gerber so I gave it away and took my leatherman Wave to Iraq! But if you like Gerber, then you may want to check out the new diesal by Gerber!

does anyone know the quality of gerber multi tools im reallllllllllly intrested in the compact sport 400 black......any one tell me abou this i would be ever so gratefull......

Hello nate1714,

I've handled Gerber MP650 De Luxe as well as Compact Sport 400 in the past. Utility is OK with these tools and they have their strengths: one hand opening, locking blades, light weight (compared to other tools in the same class), non-clumping, user-serviceable, etc., but they also have their misgivings: short/stubby drivers, short knife blade, rattling of plier-head even when extended, smaller plier-jaw spread.

Furthermore, the bundled ballistic nylon sheath is prone to damage by the protruding needle nose head. You'll soon find your sheath with a ventilation hole at the bottom.

For a year or so the MP650 was my EDC tool, but I later swapped it for a Victorinox Swisstool.

HTH. =)

well that was very help full thank you very much i dont think i have any questiong anymore about gerber tools........well i guess ill throw this out there what is you favorit multi tool and why....
mine gerber 400 compact sport because it seems to be very much worth its cheap price tag...

I haven't ever liked a gerber before, but that's just me.

If you can, handle as many of these in a store as you can to see what you like best.

Also list the tools you will need and make sure you get the one that will work the best for what you do, not the one with the most novel features.

Hmm. Adjustable wrench. See if you can find a Spyderco Spyderench on ebay. They're discontinued, but they do have a wrench like that.

I don't know of any others, you may need a multitool _and_ an adjustable...maybe others here can help.

i have the wave and carry a 4'' blue point adjustable wrench in one of the side pockets. It works really well because that way you have pliers to hold the bolt head and wrench for the nut. Its a little tight in the side pocket to doesnt bother me 2 much. Kinda over kill for a farmer :)
