I just bought a Gerber, mainly because of how cheap it was. I wanted to try a convex edge for the first time. Anyways, regardless of how much my edge sucks, the knife really isn't all THAT bad. It's the Gerber Evo Jr. I used it for throwing, did that snap test, white knuckle test, and abused the hell out of it and the lock's never failed on me. I thought Gerber's were supposed to suck more?

i have 3 gerbers a Hinderer rescue knife a Freeman Folder and a little assited opener all three are tough knives regardless of what ive read on here, you can get quality from gerber its just a shame they import it all:grumpy: They cant compete with my beloved old slippies but they do what they are supposed to... If you like the knife thats all that matters.
If you hate chinese import then all gerbers will be bad i suppose.

p.s. Cabella's for a while had a S30V Freeman folder that stated it was made in the USA, right around 100 bucks too rich for me but peaked my interest for sure, i cant find any reference that they are making knives stateside, hmmmm one can hope

There's a few Gerber models made in the USA yet. One is the Gator and I know they have a few other models that come from the same factory. A lot of the other models come from Taiwan and a doubt many models are made in China. The main problem with Gerber is Fiskars bought them and after that they just aren't nearly the knife they was before. So naturally people resent it.
here is another USA made Gerber- http://blog.knifecenter.com/gerber-prodigy-combat-fixed-blade/
In fact looking at the few Gerbers in my house -
Harsey Ti Airframe-USA
Applegate combat folder- USA
Gator- USA
and some little rubber handled lock-back from Wal-Mart -Taiwan

I've owned about 3 Gerber's. I have since sold off all but one, and its not far off. For a 15-30 dollar knife, Gerber's aren't bad. But you can get a better knife for the same price. Depends what you want the knife to do. The first fixed blade Gerber I had has skinned a deer or two and worked well.

My Gerbers have served me well. I only hear problems with their cheaper knives

X2, I think many complaints are caused by Gerber's "budget" made in china line. While these are still decent knives (for the money) they do not stand up to the same quality that Gerber was previously known for. I know I for one was disappointed by this sudden drop in quality, the knife wasn't bad, just not as good as I was expecting. IMO their higher end Made in America knives are still pretty decent.
