I have the opportunity to trade for some gerber product but I am not real familiar with them. I have always heard to stay away from it. Do they make aqnything worth trading for?

The china made stuff is junk, pure and simple.

The gator, gatormate, and LST line is still made in Portland, and gets a very good heat treat on decent grade steel. Not great steel, but decent, with a very good heat treat. I've got some non-knife knut friends who think a pocket knife is like a .99 cent screwdriver, just a tool to use up. They carry those LSTs and abuse the ever lovin crap out of them. They stand up pretty good.

I've had a Gerber/Fiskars sliding blade saw as part of my day packs gear, and for 10 years I've used it to harvest sapplings I make hiking sticks out of, to sell at craft fairs. Carl's third leg sticks. So far, it's been a great little saw.

define "worth." Depends on what you are trading for it I suppose.

I have some paraframes and FAST's and a Profile - I've had no problems with any of them. I think they are worth what I paid.

If its vintage stuff it might be a wise move.Mk.I MkII,early hunters and fighters were very cool and very collectable. Also the Folding Sportsman and others.Present day Gerber isnt highly thought generally.
