Gerber's going "Custom"...nice!

The stupid web page work for me just like the last Gerber knife I had so the jury's still out. I do like the concept but I would like to know what the construction is.

Hopefully they will eventually customise the steel like Benchmade customs. I always wished they made the Strongarm in a more premium steel.

This is very mildly cool and I think the only people that would consider this custom work would be the general public, as in non knife nerds.
For folks around here, I suspect these "custom" options amount to little more than over-glorified laser engravings that I'd probably scrape off in the first week from use.
I have a few customs and limited production runs from BRT Blade Works (Ben Tendick), Busse & Kin, and Half Face Blades to name a few.
As nice as they are, I don't care about custom knives as much as I do quality knives that cut well and last a good while.
My standard, somewhat mass-produced Spydercos get used the most simply because they feel good in hand and cut well.
Pretty colors and artistic handiwork are nice, but they don't make the knife cut any better.

These knives from Gerber look like the same old crap they've been pushing with custom engravings now available.

I didn't see the "we're sorry about the Bear Grylls thing" or "promise this is a good knife" options so I'll pass.

Coatings that I personally believe inhibit blade performance and some bass fisherman's scale ideas don't interest me. But I'm sure a lot of folks will love it

Now where is that other website...??? Oh, here it is... https://www.buckknives.com/custom-knife-shop/

;)

Hopefully this is just the beginning and they will expand on the options as well as models.

It is gerber though... doubt id bother with anything they offer

At one time, a looong time ago, Gerber was top of the line. I wish they’d rediscover themselves.

I remember buying gerber knives when I was a knife newbie back in 2000-2001. Didnt know any better and thought they were the bees knees

Wouldnt be caught dead with a gerber now. Even a custom.

My friend, who painfully for me, only buys cheaper knives, bought this BEAR GRYLLS folding abomination a few years back.
Oh my god what an utter piece of swill LOL. Completely embarrassing, and I couldnt believe bear attached his name to such a thing!
He still has it, and knows full well how I feel. He loves busting that thing out of his pocket when we're hanging out as a "HA HA" xD

He really REALLY beat that thing up. The wobble and play when locked up is DANGEROUSLY treacherous, yet he ignores my warning. Id say he'd lose a finger, but the blade is dull and he can't sharpen his knives

I can't say that this interests me all that much, but I'm impressed with the changes Gerber has made over the last year or two. The Fastball was a really solid knife that really surprised me. S30V with a great blade shape and flipping action. A couple changes to the fit and finish as well as an improvement with the liner lock and it could have been a real winner of a knife under $100.

This year they're taking what worked with the Fastball and Flatiron and seem to be improving on it. I see a; 20CV/cleaver Fastball, a D2/cleaver/Micarta Asada, and a D2/cleaver/Micarta Flatiron all coming out soon. Maybe a little heavy on the cleaver shaped blade but I could see them all doing pretty well. Pricing seems good too.

I had a Gerber product once. Never again.
Agree. I made the "oops" of betting a Gerber back in the late 1970's. The FROST gas station knives I was given as a kid were better in every way.
That Gerber went to the landfill is several pieces, so no one would try to "rescue" it.
A dull hacksaw blade had no difficulty cutting thee blade into thirds. (No way that blade had been heat treated. It was too thick to be a repurposed car or truck fender ... maybe it was a repurposed automotive running board?)

Allow me to fix the topic title, it seems you forgot something.

"Gerber's going "Custom"... nice joke ahahahahaha!"
