The GEK 2000 by Eickhorn,Solingen Germany

First,I doubted, that this knife could be so special to me,but then I learned to love it.
I got this knife directly from its designer: the belgian survival tutor and expedition leader Tony(Anton) Lennartz.

He asked me to do a little tough review for the german tacticalforum. So,I did. After the test,I bought it and now it`s one of my outdoor-favorites,even though the design seems to look a bit "boring".

Eickhorn,Solingen did a very good job on the heat treatening of the D2(Böhler K110) steel blade, and modified the grane structure(I was told)so that the D2 is not brittle anymore, like D2 usually sometimes is.
The only thing,I didn`t like, were the aluminum handles,I changed mine myself to better ones with more grip.

Here`s the vid for you - enjoy it !

The one in the video has a coated blade. But now,the blades of the new GEKs 2000 are not coated anymore but kind of satin finish or stonewashed.
I also removed the coating of mine after the video test with diamond sand paper.Looks much better.(personal opinion)

The knife is a bit prizy,but worth it,I think,have a look!

Greetings from the Black Forest,Christian :)

Hi BlackForestGhost,

Good review on the GEK 2000 with many cutting and chopping tests on various materials. Didn't expect a throwing test though.

This is off-topic though, if I am not mistaken, you once posted a Youtube video on the Boker Turbine Tactical folder which was not bad.

Yes I had on my old channel a tabletop-review on the Turbine tactical by Böker.
But I will soon make a practical test review with it.

I will soon start with folder practical tests and reviews, but at the moment I`m still thinking about good test methods for folders(of different styles/purposes).

Thanks for your compliment!:D

it's quite a brute then?
so wasn't it in the Puma product line up a long ways ago?

That`s correct,it was produced by Puma first. But it`s now produced by Eickhorn and the quality(especially the toughness of the blade) is much better now.

It`s a real strong blade and this at such a light weight!
Like I told before, first I also was not so pleased with the design, but since I am using this knife more often,I really love it`s performance and durability.

It`s just a simple construction - but it works great. And I never will sell mine:)

there was also a smaller model from Puma.
though, the GerExperKnife is more pleasing to the eye.
with some tinkering, i figure two slabs of full piece scales with easy fastening methods could afford a small hidden area for stashing whatever is necessary.
not a new idea considering, the old timberline survival knife had that system for one.

@ BlackForestGhost
That's incorrect. :)
The German Expedition Knife was produced by Carl Schlieper from 1988.
After the insolvency of Schlieper it was produced by Puma in 1991.

@ ChriBo

Thanks for the correction -my mistake!:o

I didn`t knew this so far,I must confess!:)

impressive results from a light weight blade. looks to be a less expensive performer than many that actually cost much more.i enjoy your decent videos which really test the products. may we see many more.

Great test. This will be my Next knife.
Plain blade or serations?????

I would love to see a BRKT Bravo-2 in the same test.

I've got a hankering for one as well. LUST is what I'd call it. It's a nice (expensive) piece of steel though it seems well worth every dollar.

Yes for sure. I Can got one for 255 Aussie dollars. I will order it monday.
Same knife from Germany will cost 375 Aussie Bucks.

Anybody ever tell you that you resemble the late GG Allin? Anyhow, great vid, confirms that D2 can indeed be used for these types of applications. Nice knife!

Wow! Thanks for sharing

I've been a fan of the simple and straightforward design of the Al Mar SERE Operator since I saw an article about it waaay back in 2000. Granted, I understand its role as a "last ditch weapon/tool", still I was wishing it had a longer blade length and no top swedge. This one I think fulfills all those plus, seems lightweight and the bonus of a striking surface on the pommel. I want one!

Just ordered mine. cant wait:thumbup:

Congrats! Pics and a few words if you're so inclined.

Hmmm. I'm thinking a rubber inner tube to wrap around the handle to store a few survival items (condoms, ferro rod, hooks, microlight, etc.) would be doable.

No problem. give it a week to show up. I am a sucker for German knives.
I will hack in to some Australian hard wood and let you know how it went.
It is also available with a clean blade.
Not sure about the handle , i sort of like the basicness of it. Prob give it a para cord wrap job ???
:)
