I am interested traditional German folders. Can anyone comment on the quality of German Eye brand. How are they in fit and finish, durability etc?
They mention hammer forged steel. Sounds good but I am not sure what that means. They are a bit expensive, are they worth the money?

Fit and finish are excellent on the jumbo stag stockman I have.

Their stainless steel seems a bit soft, a little hard to get an edge on, and doesn't seem to hold it long.

I have the large Sodbuster by German Eye with a HF Solingen Blade and it has held up well to day in and day out use since I got it 2 months ago. Paid about $35beans for it and won't leave the house without iit.

My understanding is that the German Eye trademark was acquired some years ago by Clarence Risner, and that the knives are produced in the Friedrich Olbertz factory in Solingen -- the same factory that makes Bulldog, Weidmannsheil, Fightn' Rooster, Indian Head and some others. I think I have the same stag jumbo stockman that Bear Claw Chris Lappe has, and it is a thing of beauty. I've had good luck with German Eye and I recommend them.

I am considering buying one of the Eye Brand locking sod busters. Anyone have anybody have any experience with them. I am also considering the twin bladed sodbuster with the saw and cutting blade. How tight are their springs.

I have one of the stag handled sodbusters with the saw. The springs are strong. The fit & finish isn't that great, but the blade execution is very good.
