I've never heard of this company but am interested in any thoughts or opinions about the quality of their work. I've seen several folders available on line for $40 -$60. I'm interested in starting a small collection of old school folders. But not sure that this is worth looking into or not
Any help is appreciated.

Buy them! They are good. Prices have been creeping up for the past 2 years by the look on it - especially for the stag pieces.

The large stockman and sodbuster patterns are especially appealing

Over the years I have had a few EYE brand knives. Good to great quality, all excellent users, and great working knives. I think at their price point they are still good buys. I like their traditional patterns, and I still have an old mini canoe I have had for 25 years. It is still one of my very favorite knives. Even after all these years, great snap, and never a problem with this little fella.

These guys have carbon steel down cold.

Like just about any other knife these days, I would see if I could check out the exact knife I was going to buy, or buy from a well known vendor.... "just in case"....

These are great users. In terms of fit & finish, sometimes hit-or-miss. I do think they're worth the money. As mentioned earlier, their blades (carbon) are first-rate and take an excellent edge.

I have a 425DS stag stockman (one of my favorite EDCs), and a large sodbuster (synthetic handle). The sodbuster is a bit rough around the edges, as befits a true 'working' knife. But, the blade's been sharpened to a scary-sharp edge. Thin profile too, which makes it a very light, comfortable carry in the back pocket.

I have a small (3 3/4") yellow sodbuster and it's an awesome working knife!!! good built quality, hair thin grind which makes it a sick slicer, comfy, light and slim
the more expensive country cousin I have is on the other side, crap. Thick edge, no (ground) tip, bad grinds, uneven handles so I like my only EYE and will get more

to me they are to be considered, hope to get more

I don't have much experience with German Eye knives, but I have owned both a large and small stag stockman. Quality is pretty good. Best word I can use to describe them is stout. They make great users.

So I wanted to bump this thread since it's not too old and I'm considering an Eye Brand. I've read that sometimes the fit and finish is a crap shoot on these. Is that still true? Is it only on the stag handled ones?

If I got something from collectorknives.net is Mike good about checking to make sure you don't get sent a wobbly blade model?

Thanks folks! :)

Any knife you don't examine for yourself is a potential disappointment. That said, Mike has done well by me when I've asked him to examine a knife on my behalf a couple of times in the past.
This is something you need to take up with him directly, however.

Yes, and not just on the stag models. I bought a bone handled stockman recently. I won't be buying more.

I will say the steel is great and it functions well, but for $55, Case's are better made.

And then there are the times you get lucky...Much as I enjoy my Case knives, none of their stag knives I own are as nice as this Eye Brand...it's all luck of the draw...

This illustrates the nature of the 'hit-or-miss' factor. I've got a 425DS stag stockman that I consider worth the money I paid. I've got a lot of Case knives too, and they're not immune to the 'hit-or-miss' issue themselves.

If you have an opportunity to inspect it yourself, or if your dealer will hand-pick one based on your specific input, by all means take advantage of that.

I've seen your pics of that one before, Elliot, and I'm still ENVIOUS of the stag you've got there. It's gorgeous (still).

I've handled hundreds of Eye Brand knives at shows, mainly at Clarence Risner's table, and as much as I like them, I wouldn't buy one sight unseen.

I have one, it was my Grandfather's. The blades are nice, a bit rusty when I got it. The yellow scales are shrunk, maybe. A slight gap at the edges, but otherwise a real good user.
