lately Ive been checking out German eye brand knives. they seem nice but the deal breaker is if they have carbon steel backsprings. i know that after a while they are quite as smooth but i just like all of my knife to match age wise.

I'm really curious if they have carbon steel backsprings and if you have a German eye brand feel free to post pics

BTW this is my first post :)

If you don't want carbon springs, just watch them and keep them oiled up. If you did want carbon backsprings and are worried that the patina will be off (given a carbon blade steel) you can always force a patina so the blades and springs match. Hope this helps.

Welcome on BF!!

I have just looked at my Carl Schlieper Canoe, and their backspring is carbon steel.

BTW: Great knives. The used carbon steel is great and takes a fine and durable edge. May I ask you, which knife you have chosen?

Kind regards
Andi

My Carl Schlieper Eye brand sodbuster jr has a carbon spring, it patinas very well and matches the blade nicely. Plus the blade steel is great, i recommend them highly!

thanks guys i like getting the patina on the blade and backspring.

looks like i have to go find my wallet....

I don't think I've ever seen any Eye Brand (or 'Carl Schlieper' branded) folders that didn't have carbon steel springs to match the (excellent) blades. One thing to note, the finish on some of their folders, both for blades and springs, is a high polish, which will take a bit longer to patina (but that also implies it won't rust as easily, so it's a good thing :)).
