I absolutely love the steel and the 0 play on these knives..Can you let me know if the quality is still as good today in the newer German eye models, and if you have any other recommendations for a like quality rock solid slippie that has steel as good as these (ease of honing/retention)? Thanks a bunch...

Here's one my Dad gave me..was a gift to him from an old friend many moons ago, and was well used even at that point.
It has been honed/worked alot..and I am just simply amazed at the snap of the lock on all blades, and how none of the blades have the slightest of play..it has re-awakened my love for the slippie, as well as for good ol' carbon.

I only have one German Eye brand knife. It's of recent manufacture but I don't know the exact year it was made. I bought it new from a dealer in November of 2011.

It's a well made knife. No blade play and good snap. Fit and finish are good too. No flaws that I can detect.

They are great knives, I think. I like the knives by Carl Schlieper.

Kind regards

The couple I have are good knives. But the "Eye Brand" creeps me out. LOL It just reminds me of the "All Seeing Eye" in pagan mythology.

I have a couple, both purchased in the last 5 years or so. One is a 425DS large stag stockman. The other is a large sodbuster with synthetic handles. The large stockman does have some significant side-to-side play in the main clip blade. The large sodbuster is pretty tight, although it's nothing to brag about in terms of fit/finish. Both knives have great carbon steel blades, and that's what I really like about them. They take great edges, and are solid users.

I have a bunch of Schliepers and a 99DS has been my main outdoor work/carry knife for years. The carbon steel takes a very sharp edge easily (because the blade is ground nice and thin as it should be just above the edge) and holds it for a lot longer than other 1095 blades. (edge holds for up to years)
The older ones are better made. You can find older carbon steel Schlieper knives on ebay every week. Get a few, they are one of the very best user production knives ever.

Here's a link to a thread with pics of my Big Schliepers. Check out the Swing Guard.

I agree with Roland ( How are you Roland-fine I hope ), the earlier Schliepers are extreme Quality, and if you have a '60's Carl Schlieper, you have a great knife. I used to own quite a few Fixed blades of this Maker...actually I must now have a dig and see what I have.
Good to see you still have your Canoe there Andi... those blades have come a long way since I held that knife last...Fantastic to see my friend.
